Sleep deprivation. Ice water plunges and retention in water as guinea pigs for medical experiments to keep downed German pilots alive in the Atlantic. Serving as test subjects for many medical experiments such as bleaching brown eyes blue (thereby blinding the prisoner) or rendering them incapable of reproduction by means cheaper than surgery--stuff you wouldn't do to a dog or cat. Beatings on bare buttocks for men, women, and children for the offenses of walking arm in arm, laughing during work, sharing food, and other innocuous behaviors. Broken hands for those who tried to write or draw. Broken legs, kneecaps, or feet for anyone who dared to play a sport or dance.

Except for those that tried to escape, broke prison rules, or withheld desired information, the prisoners were not tortured, they were either worked to death or they were simply executed. Asphyxiation by gas and then mass burial or incineration was common. Some were used in medical experiments that could be consider torture. Being worked to death is a form of torture, I suppose, but it's a bit different than simply inflicting pain on someone for the sake of it. Frequent beatings, starvation and rape were standard. The medical experiments were the worst. Josef Mengele used living children to see if injections of bleach into the eyes would make brown eyes turn blue. There is no possible medical reason for a experiment like this, it's wholly sadistic.
