Plastic eyeglass versus metal eyeglass frame.?

For almost the whole time I've been wearing glasses I've had metal frames with nose pads. I now find the pads are bothering my nose. I have a question for anybody who has worn both metal and plastic frames. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Will plastic frames stay up on your face like they are supposed to? Any help from professionals in the field would be welcome. I do wear progressive as I'm in my 50's.

It depends how the bridge of your nose is made. For many , a plastic frame just won't fit right on the nose which can make them more annoying than nosepads.

Plastic frames also slide more when it's hot out . They also tend to spread out and need adjustments more often than a solid metal frame.

The nose pads on metal frames can definitely irritate the nose. Try on some plastic frames next time you go to the eye doctor and see how they feel. They should be able to fit you with the correct size (there are numbers inside your frame that tell you your size). It will stay on your nose if you get the correct size, and they can adjust it as well, especially behind the ears in order to keep the frame from moving. Trying on different styles of plastic frames will help as well, some may be more comfortable than others. I think the metal frames are more easily damaged if they are dropped as well. As long as you get the right size, they should be comfortable.
