What causes the stunting of socially conservative people's intellect and what can normal humans do to protect themselves from these things?

A lot of it has to do with conservatives trying to destroy the school system - there is even a GOP platform in Texas to ban teaching critical thinking. They want people uneducated and hateful of those who are informed. This is most prominent in the red states.

Social conservatism is not a symptom of unintelligence and this is not a legitimate question, rather a thinly veiled attempt to start a political argument. This belongs on the forums of MSNBC, The Daily Beast, or your own personal blog. This does not belong on Yahoo Answers. Take your political argument elsewhere please.
