I need comfort? Going to put dog down in a few hours?

I just need virtual hugs. I m home alone with my dog at the moment waiting for my family to get home in a couple of hours. Then the vet will come and put him down.

He has been suffering with congestive heart failure all year long. Undiagnosed. He got sick this weekend with vestibulr disease. Now all of it is coming about his health issues. He has lost the majority of his eyesight. He can t use his back legs very well. Since Saturdayhe is struggling to breathe and get comfortable as he barks all day long WITHOUT STOPPING.

We were gonna try. He is obn lasik for fluid in lungs, we were gonna set up appointment with cardiologist. But today I was just watching him bark and pant. And I thought he can t do this for long.

I m home alone with him. He is sleeping. Could you please say something nice for my dog. I have had him since I was 5.

I know your pain, and I also know that with time (and possibly a new dog) you will move on. It will always hurt when you think about the good times you've had with him, but just remember that the hurt is a sign of how much you loved him. Even though you didn't want to lose him you put that aside and did what was best for him. Your greatest act of love is letting him go. You loved him enough to end his pain. I've had to put down two Boxer/Labrador mixes at 13 and 14 who were sisters. They were sick and in both their final days they couldn't even lift their heads. I was there both times....sorry...tearing up here. And in their final moments I would...okay...more tears....I would hold their heads in my lap and I could feel their pulse. They looked up into my eyes and seemed to say, "Thank you, for loving me enough to let me go." They both were calm and happy when their pulse stopped. They were a year old when I was born and they were the sweetest things ever. RIP Aubrey and Kiara. Sisters in Heaven, Together Forever.

So very sorry, but it is clear that your family have done all they can and they are doing the very best thing in having the vet come to your house so that he can be peacefully in a place he feels comfortable.

Take heart that there is nothing more your family can do and know that he will be out of pain this way. Hold him while he slips away and talk to him.

I went through this just three weeks ago.

There is no one who can help you. It will take a long time before you come to terms with your loss. You will get flashbacks that will distress you.

You will walk through a door and feel his presence.

Thankfully you know how to help your beloved dog.

Way back vets in the UK used to do home visits to end a dogs life, unfortunately this is a thing of the past. Having said that, there is a tablet that you can give to him before the final injection, it stops them from being frightened.

I am so sorry, it is never easy. Just know you provided and amazing life with years of love. Remember you are doing what is best for him, it's hard for you because you will be here without him and you will hurt, but he will be at peace, no longer suffering. You are essentially taking his pain for him, which is extremely selfless and just shows how loved he is. I don't know your beliefs, but I am a firm believer in the rainbow bridge and at he will be watching over you always until one day you meet again.

such a sad time, but its better that he's out of pain and going to a better place. Give him lots of hugs and kisses before he goes. It's one of the hardest things in the world, but just remember he's not happy and its for the best :(

well, dog you had a creat life with a great family. I am sure you took care of the family and now it is time for your family to take care of your pain. The Vet will take care of you in a couple of hours, and you will be going to doggie heaven. Good luck.

I've been there - kidney failure in my pet's case. I just hugged him till he was gone then had a good cry. It seems unfair, but the peace afterwards is weighted against the life of perpetual suffering otherwise. It took me a while to accept that, but I did, and so will you.

    *hugs you* ( I don't normally hug )

Please be with him when he's being put down. Hold his paw ☹️

Sorry you had to go through this

And remember, if you ever get another dog, it's because your first dog was so great that it made you get another one. That shows how much you appreciated and loved him ..

im so sorry just remember that he loves you and you gave him a good life.

"People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody and being kind. Well, dogs already know how to do that, so thats why they dont stay as long"

Spend time with him, do things he likes to do (grooming, talk to him, etc.). Take some pictures. And have Kleenex by you, this isn't going to be easy.
