As a smoker, I'm all for the banning of cigarettes. Instead of a ban, the tobacco companies made a deal to pay the feds billions for allowing them to continue to sell.I have stopped may times, but in a moment of weakness usually while picking up something simply like milk, I'll buy another stupid pack and start the frigging cycle all over again. For myself anyways, lack of easy access would help me quite once and for all. Funny thing, I have noticed the numbers of smokers dropping for years. When I started more then 50% of people smoked, $.75 a pack was the norm. That was a long time ago. Over the last year it has dawned on me, many adults/parents that I know, actually hide the fact they smoke. They not only hide it from their kids but from their friends. So i started looking at sales as opposed to % of population who smoke. The sales numbers don't jive with the drop in smoking that supposedly has been happening. Curious.

There are too many people addicted. You would just raise a cottage industry in cigarette smuggling. There is already cigarette smuggling in places where there are exceedingly high taxes on them. There was once a suggestion that cigarette smokers should have to get a prescription from a doctor every six months, along with a little education on the effects of lung cancer etc.

No. But there should be places where they cannot smoke so that they wouldn't harm others with their smokes.
I don't see any reasons that it should be banned if they do it in a place where they cannot harm others. Also tobacco is a great opportunity for the state to earn money throgh tax.
