I have an Akita and haven't bought her a dog bed, is that bad?
My Akita is a girl and she's 9 months old. When we got her at 3 months old we did buy her a bed which she ended up chewing up. We bought another at about 6 months old and she did the same. Now she's older and much bigger she chooses to sleep on the floor in the kitchen which is cold laminate flooring. I have laid out a thick blanket instead of a dog bed for her and she ignores it and would rather sleep on the floor. Is there a reason why she does this? Is it bad that I haven't bought her an actual dog bed because I think she'll either ignore it or chew it?

Dog beds for dogs are truly optional and not a requirement. My Pomsky is allowed to sleep on my bed, and he does, but right now is asleep on the floor behind me.

No. Don't buy her another bed, unless it's for her to chew up. She sleeps on that floor bc it's comfortable. She likes it cooler. I've had my dog for 11 yrs and have never bought her a bed. Lots of toys tho.

Actually, you've bought your dog 2 beds and it destroyed both. Some dogs won't sleep in a bed without tearing it up. You provided a blanket which your dog may like better as winter comes along, or not. I don't think you should buy another dog bed.

Akitas are traditionally from a very cold climate (North Japan) so she might be getting too warm in a bed. Is it very hot wheres you are? If she's inside as well she might just prefer the floor

Do you let her sleep on your bed or on your couch because if not then I would get her a tough sturdy bed that is not easy to chew up but if she does end up chewing it up then I would just give up on getting her a bed.

This is what she prefers, why are you stressing over it? Let sleeping dogs lie where they choose.

the floor is cooler. She has a lot of fur. Huskies/Malamutes sleep on the snow.
