A = Without ; Gnosis = Knowledge ; Agnostic = Without Knowledge (of God). They know He exists, but they don't know and maybe, they don't want to know about God...
"The heavens are declaring the glory of God;
The skies above proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day their speech bubbles forth,
And night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 There is no speech, and there are no words;
Their voice is not heard" (Psalms 19:1-3. Bible).

Well, it comes from Greek, not Latin. And you don't cite your source. According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, you are simply wrong.

Your standard for proof is a little light, but not as bad as your Latin.

IT DOES NOT MEAN I don't know, this is a stupid and foolish derivation, you have to know ZERO Latin to be fooled into that meaning. You will NEVER find it in all of Latin Literature. NEVER
