Yes, it was a promise. It may not be a physical wall but a laser system or whatever. The point would be to have controlled immigration. Part of that, overlooked by progressives, is that it would break the dependency on cheap migrant cash labour. Things will cost more under Trump, because they will be built, picked, and nannied legally by people who will have to pay taxes and who will get minimum wage and have labour protections.

Actually I'd be happy if we just enforce the immigration laws that are on the books...it is all there in black and white in the U.S. Immigration laws...we just have to enforce the laws like we used to and this open border illegal immigration nonsense will end PDQ.
