in setting up additional account in gmail, i amgiven pop or imap settings. what is the default for gmail

POP - one device extracts the email from the server, the server no longer has the email. Now if a second device tries to get emails, the 2nd device gets any new ones, but NOT the ones the first device got. IMAP - any device synch's with the server, gets a copy of the email, the email stays on the server, until a user delete's it from a device, and next time a device connects it synch's the changes. You choose, but most likely since gmail is for mobile devices its gonna be IMAP.
