i have an old desktop,,,maybe 12years old. it runs XP pro, 3.2 ghz intel. i am using the motherboard ethernet. lately i have been having slow performance issues and maybe i should get a card.

should i get a 10/100 or 10/100/1000. is the latter overkill for my machine. i'll get a new cable too.

my download speed is 24mps.

my upload speed is 18 mps.

isn't the general rule of thumb the download speed should be about 10x the upload speed? at least, i have always found this to be the case.

so then why is my download speed NOT 10x the upload speed.

btw, on my wife's computer(we are both hardwired to the router), she is also getting 18mps upload,,, but 224mps download!!!!

i have these old bose speakers with the 2 bare wires you clip onto the back of a stereo system. is there any way to hook them into the rca outputs in the back of my tv?

here's the pattern... what do you think is going on

1...all of a sudden started losing connection with "connection unplugged" error message in the taskbar. linksys lne100tx

2... performed a "go back" which is a computer restore program on steroids. i restored to a safe point and my connection was fine.

3...this happened about 3x and each about 3 or 4 days apart. i did a "go back" each time and everything was fine.

4...network connection finally gave out - "go back" did not solve the problem.

5...i switched connection to the onboard intel connection and everything worked again. connection fine at 47mbs.

6...STILL i got the same error unplug message in the taskbar even though i was connected.

as i type right now, the error message has popped up twice in the taskbar. once before, after switching to the onboard networking card, the error message kind of,,,"blinked" ??

so, to sum up..maybe it was the linksys, but i still get the same error message even with the working onboard intel networking connection

anybody have an idea what's going on?

i could do it before but i can't do it now.

it was plastic mechanical thingy that was constructed like gears(?). you stuck a pen in a hole and swirled the toy to create these geometric circular spiralish-type repetitive designs

i always end up having to edit the category. for instance, i was in consumer elec>cell phones, and i asked a question concerning my lg. there was no ititial way to categorize and YA automatically placed my question in computer monitors.

i had to go back in and edit the category. why do i have to do this all the time
