Is Filipino martial arts worth it?

The things you learn are almost useless in real life because they teach how to fight with blades and in reality you must run when you encounter a knife attack. This isn't a hollywood movie where you fight and end up winning. you will be cut, stabbed or worse. So I came to this question: if I take Martial arts classes where they teach me how to become efficient with knives will I learn how to effectively defend myself or is it all just for show and to make you look cool?

P.S I wanted to take krav maga since they teach real life situational self defense plus they teach knife defense but the damn class is too far.

krav maga is not the only answer to real life situations, although it can be a shortcut. The only problem with a short path is, if you run into an advanced fighter, it might not work out too well.

Any martial art can be used for a life situation if the teacher is handing it down correctly and the student understands how to apply it.

The Filipino arts are becoming increasingly popular especially among military and law enforcement personnel. Filipino arts are leading experts in the blade. The Filipino arts teach that the knife, stick and sword are mere extensions of your hands and the same techniques they have for armed combat are the same for unarmed so you don't lose time learning specific techniques for specific circumstances. Unlike Chinese Kim swords, broad swords or the Japanese katana Filipino swords directly translate into the machete, which you can see on the news and internet are still happening today. Filipino arts also have systems within systems such as buno/dumog which is a wrestling and joint lock system. They also have a system called Kino Mutai which teaches things like eye gouging, biting and slapping. I'll post some links below. If you're serious about training I suggest you watch them to get a better perspective.

A weapon is an extension of your body, if you can fight with a weapon you can use those same skills to fight without one.

And not all of the Philippine arts is about weapons, its also about unarmed fighting as well.

BTW it you ever want to learn how to defend against a knife, Philippine arts is one of the more realistic ones. most places don't teach how to disarm a knife properly, and will only get you killed.

You don't know enough to decide what is useless and what is real life. If you had known, then you would have asked what do you do if you can't run.

It is like trying to convince to a doctor, with arguments with no facts and figures, that medicines don't work and then asking him, do medicines work?

What do you expect him to say?

    They work?

If you don't want to take the medicine, just don't.
