Cholla wood in aquaium?

I want to use Cholla wood in a shrimp tank. I know that it disolves in several months, but does it leave peices or, disolve and decay or what? I dont want to end up hurting the shrimp with a dirty tank, but I here the cholla wood is good for them.

I had my Cholla wood in a 10 gallon shrimp tank for 5 years - it never noticeably dissolved. It did produce a lot of tannins, but other than that was a nice, long-lasting wood. Water quality was always high, too. And I still have some of the pieces in storage now. I was careful when handling it because some of the pieces were thin in the pieces that were mostly hollow already, but it was as easy to break it after an hour being waterlogged as after years. Now, I did buy Cholla wood that was already meant for aquariums, but the dealers didn't say anything about it being pre-treated.

When it decays rapidly, it will do so at a relatively small scales; you won't have to skim for large floating chunks everyday. There does seem to be a lot of variability in how rapidly decay of cholla occurs, which may be in some way correlated with the species used as well as whether it's been pre-treated. Water quality will naturally have some effects too, but these should be more secondary.
