How are people with under 3.0 GPAs getting into ivy leagues?

Doing college apps, and I noticed that there are people with 2.0s-3,0s getting into schools like Harvard, yale, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth. Why?

Ivies, like most all other private colleges, quickly accept children of wealthy and famous people. Hefty donations opens doors.

Not many people with under 3.0 GPAs get into Ivy League schools. I'm wondering where you are getting this information.

I'm not sure where you are getting your data, but there are VERY FEW students getting into Ivy League or other highly selective universities with lower than 3.0 GPA.

I have a less cynical view that Frankie. There are students who have a profound reason for a low GPA that has been rectified (car accident, cancer, becoming a refugee, beeing homeless, etc.) and their "story" is compelling enough that that university decides to admit them. Keep in mind that all universities have leeway regarding who they admit and why. There are always athletic exceptions, and there may certainly be legacy applicants whose parents' or grandparents' status or donations create opportunities.
