Film theory Question?

I'm writing a film theory essay, and I want to use the term "on stage" in reference to character's in the shot. Is that a correct term? The set isn't actually up on stage like a theater (it's the scene from Citizen Kane inside their home).

Would it be more correct to say "on set" or "in the shot". I'm not sure. What is the right movie term?

On screen or on camera. A character can be referred to as "off-camera" if their voice is heard in the scene, or some other character is addressing them, but they cannot be seen.

    On screen.
