I want to decorate my draw set with acrylic paint?
I'm just in school and I want to add a bit of fun to my room before I have to live in it with VCE work. I have a draw set that has been crudely painted in a very glossy coat (I got the draws second hand as they are now) and I was wondering how some cheap acrylic poster paint will work on them, I would prefer to spend as little as possible and painting is my hobby so I'm not worried about having to get it off but how well will it stay on? should I sand paper the draws first or can I get away with just going over it now? and also, once I have finished my images should I paint a clear gloss/resin/varnish over the top to act as a seal?
~thanks

If you are going to use cheap paints, then I wouldn't bother sanding. Acrylic is like glue so it will stay on for a very long time: I presume you are not interested in keeping that second hand draw set looking like new for the rest of your life, so don't worry too much about how long the paint will last. You can always retouch it as needed, but most likely you'll get rid of it long before it needs to be fully repainted.
So just clean the surface really good to remove old dirt. And paint over it. No need to seal it since acrylic is waterproof. But if you want to add a gloss finish then get water based acrylic gloss medium (don't use solvent based varnish/finishes, the solvents could melt away the acrylic.)
