2008 Equinox Timing Chain Repair Cost?

So, how much should one expect to pay to get the timing chain on a 2008 Equinox Sport (V6) engine changed? My research indicates in the neighborhood of $1000. But I can't really nail it down. The required hours vary from 4 to 10, and also I've seen a wide range on the cost of the parts from about $40 to about $400. I'd appreciate it if someone with some knowledge on the issue could weigh in. Denver area, if that makes a difference.

Flat rate guide shows 9.5-hrs labor to replace all 3 chains. Add another 0.3-hrs if the sprockets must be replaced. GM chains list for around $50-ea for the secondary chains and $45 for the primary. You'll probably need new chain guides for around $30 each (x3), chain shoes $25-ea (x2), tensioner around $70-ea (x3) and a timing cover gasket $13. If you don't use genuine GM parts, the prices will be less

Why do you need a new timing chain? If it broke, the 3.6L is an interference engine and there's probably damage.
