What's up with my laptop?

Okay, so I have an Acer Aspire that's at least 5-6 years old, I take as good of care of it as I humanly can, and lately I've been having problems with charging. The battery, light, and power lights all start to flash (and the battery icon shows up as not charging).

At first I thought this was a problem with the power cable, because it never seemed to be fixed by just changing power outlets. On that note, I thought it might be the outlets, but my Dad has tested them and they all work fine. Now I've taken the battery out and the computer works fine...but I can't imagine this is just a bad battery.

Is it staring me in the face or is there more to this than I originally thought?

The battery has probably been overcharged, and here in not to long your computer won't even turn on due to a shot battery

Now that I think of it there's a few possibilities it could be

    Wrong charger

    Defective charger adapter

Based off all the info you gave, I'm guessing the battery is the problem. Even if you take as good care of the laptop as you can, battery degradation is something that is unavoidable in all devices, even phones.

What makes you think it isn't the battery. - this sounds perfectly possible to me
