We have the system imposed to supposedly stop this - same day appointments. In reality you have to ring at 8am or 1pm and find that the phone lines are constantly engaged. Half an hour later you give up.
I'd prefer an appointment in the far distant future to this system, at least you get to see a doctor eventually!
However, looking on the bright side, I'm sure it's boosting my immune system wonderfully, pity about the weeks of discormfort endured whilst fighting the bugs off.

Most modern surgeries have a triage system where, if you say you think your need for a doctor is urgent (like needing it for medical reasons today), they'll get a doctor to phone you back shortly and assess whether you need to be invited to their emergency clinic time slot. If they don't do that then you can call NHS Direct on 111 and their call centre will ask you questions and tell you what needs to happen next.
Non urgent appointments have been cast into chaos by your government's austerity cuts.

I phoned NHS 24 recently, and they determined to send an Ambulance to take me to hospital. I was then seen within 10 minutes by the triage doc, and then sat in the A&E department waiting to be seen and treated.................. For 8 straight Hours ! without food as I may be called at any time.
It was purgatory.
If you think it is an emergency - go to A& E and either get better by yourself or die waiting.

Too many foreigners. This is what happens when you have open borders.
