shouldn't the USA build more oil refineries and process our own oil for our own use? of course we could also export some too.?

Your understanding of what "oil" actually IS is pitiful even by American standards, my ignorant friend!

What comes out of the hole you drill in the ground is Crude Oil, a mixture of numerous hydrocarbons that can be "cracked" or fractionated into HUNDREDS of components.....Refineries are designed to produce a handful of these each depending on the flavor of the first oil that came up where they are built.....and since it can take MANY years to build a new refinery, it's FAR cheaper to ship the oil somewhere that already HAS a refinery making what you need than to "build a new one"...

The other option is to process the Crude we have here in the US using the refineries we have, and just replace all the automobiles with ones designed to run on what we've got.....How'd you think THAT would go over with the American public?

Study some basic Organic Chemistry, Myant.....it'll help you not sound like such an under-educated fool!

Yes. The EPA and other government agencies have blocked this from happening as a way to keep oil prices higher in an effort to push alternative energy. I think it's funny that Obama blocked the pipeline for so many years only for the largest deposit to be found right in Texas.

The US became an oil exporter under Obama

Absolutely Yes! It's ridiculous that we continue to import foreign oil when we have hundreds of years of known reserves in our own backyard.

We don't need more refineries. We have more capacity than we need and in fact are exporting products from our refineries

no i doubt they would do that. if they buy up others supplies first when stocks run short all over the world america can smuggly sit back charge whatever they want for their stocks and have oil when the rest of the world doesn't. they ain't daft.

No, America needs to move away from fossil fuels. If for no other reason than the poisoning of the water we drink and the air we breath.

Sure, they could do that, if underground oil aquifers existed in American soil.

That may actually happen here soon (soon being relative as it will take some time).

They say they are self sustaining now, which is a lie.
