Even though no sex took place, it was still an assault. The director didn't prepare her for it, so she was also subjected to the trauma of uncertainty about what was going to happen. She may have really thought Brando was going to rape her. In any event, prompting a fearful reaction was what Bertolucci said he wanted. He admitted he didn't let her in on the plan because he wanted her reaction as a person, not as an actress who was prepared for the scene. It's tantamount to those kids, years ago, who invited a girl from their school to a party, then video recorded themselves kidnapping her, blindfolding her and taking her away in a car, telling her they were going to kill her and then burying her alive before they took her out and told her it was all a joke. It's sick, cruel and, arguably, criminal.

Adding a question mark does not make a statement into a question.

She said in the same article they did not actually have sex.
