Living alone again at age 35 and scared to go to sleep at night, so I wait until dawn... Is this weird?

My mom and I resided together for almost a year. She left today and moved into her new place. We left on good terms, and in the afternoon, I was alright. But the minute it became about 10:00 at night, I got severely paranoid, even tho my door is locked. Whenever I live in an apartment or house by myself, I m super super fearful of going to sleep at night. So, I will panic and stay awake until dawn, when I see the sky getting lighter, that s when I feel safe enough to go to sleep. Why am I feeling this way? I don t understand...

Update:

It is now 2:35 a.m., December 6, 2016, and I meant to say she left around 2 p.m. yesterday.

Can you have a nice little dog in your place? I realize each apartment is different, but when I am alone, I know my dog will bark if there is a noise or someone lurking around. Dogs bark, thus scaring anyone who might think of breaking in. People with intentions of breaking in don't want you possibly calling the police if your dog is barking. Or, the neighbors may look out and see someone, if the dog begins to bark at an intruder.

Dogs are nice and usually good to have around, keeping you company, and sometimes offering cuddles depending on the dog. Actually, if you can have a dog, this may also relieve some of your other things going on. A dog can also help break the ice with people, if you happen to take the dog for a walk.

Consider going to your local shelter and find a dog you bond with. I'll bet you can find a dog, even if you don't feel like hanging with people. Then, take it for walks or to a dog park. It is also kind of fun, when people say, "What a cute dog you have!"

AND, by the way if you don't want a dog around forever, offer to be a foster for an animal rescue league. Then, you can still let the dog go to someone else after a good home is found. You will also have the rescue group to talk with if you feel like it. They really appreciate fosters! Fosters are their "gems". www.petfinder.com to find a rescue group or to find a dog you might like.

I don't think it is weird, by the way. I have always felt more comfortable with a dog around, and have been known to sleep with a fire extinguisher near the bed, when I was younger and my husband was away on a business trip.

When I was younger, yet, and didn't have a dog I had specific places where I decided I would hide, if I thought someone might break in. Good thing we now have cell phones we can keep right with us! You probably feel better about falling asleep when the sun rises, because it seems less likely that someone will break into the house/apartment.

You could also, get one of those door knob alarms, so that if someone fiddles with the door you would know it. But, I would still get a dog, anyway.

I don't want a roommate, dummy. I'm better off alone, because I don't get along with people when they live with me. So, no thank you.

If you don't use the word "again" in this question, it is not considered weird.
