i need help to finish this sentence for a hypothesis?

a group and I did an observation of smoking college students and gender differences. We hypothesis that there will be a close amount of male and female smokers in smoking zones. saying that there wont be a large gap of female and males smokers. I don't know how to reword that.

so far I started with "we speculate that there wont be/will be....

can someone help me reword it?

    We hypothesise that the ratio of male to female smokers will be close to or at one to one (1:1)
