I think he might like me, but there's a small issue?
So yesterday I went to a little gathering of some friends, when I met a guy there that was kind of cute. He seemed super interested in talking to me, and I liked talking to him. But later on I found out a close friend of mine really likes him, and is convinced he likes her too, though he didn't even say two words to her the entire duration of the gathering. He came and sat down next to me and showed me cute videos of his pet (which was adorable, since I had informed him that I am a big animal nut in a conversation prior) and she seemed all mad at me. Later she told me to back off because they were pretty much dating, and she didn't want me to be heartbroken. But, again, he barely spoke to her. They've known each other for a while too (I only know that from information I got from her cousin, who is also a good friend of mine)
I don't know how to interpret what was going on, I'm just really confused. I think he might like me... But could he have just been playing me? Or was she just jealous that he was paying attention to me and not her? Any and all opinions and interpretations of this welcome

Whether or not your friend is deluded, or whether he DOES like her and you're treading on her toes... What's more important to you? This guy, or your friendship with her? Once you have that answer, you'll know whether to pursue a romance or not.
Perhaps your friend is living in a dream world, but remember that just because he never spoke to her doesn't automatically mean he isn't interested in her. Sometimes, guys can be far too shy to talk to the girl they like, but can have no problem talking to a girl they aren't romantically interested in.

Tell her to chill.
You didn't know whether or not she was dating him coz he didn't show any signs or drop any hints about that.
So if she felt the need to talk to you, she should better talk to him as well because he didn't try to resist you. He seemed happy and enjoying your company.
Tell her you were just talking to him. You two kind of hit it off. You weren't dating him.
But you would, only if he shows any interest in you.

Its his choice who he dates. Don't try to manipulate the situation or try to get between them. Be a nice person to both your friend and this guy. In time it will show who he actually likes. Just be cautious hes not playinh both of you.
