It's unlikely that the earliest stages of the formation of the religion were solely for the purpose of acquiring money and/or power, yes. More than likely the level of commitment and fanatical devotion at that time were sincere. But the fact remains that once the religion gained a foothold, many of it's primary adherents and progenitors advocated vociferously for the main purpose of acquiring wealth, position and power, just as with most religions after the initial formation struggles are completed.

Tithing was a law of the church when Abraham was the prophet. the aactual patriarch of earths history ! go think about that.

tithing was reinforced with the words of Malachi. Jesus himself said salvation is of the Jews. but that's while he was a live. the new testament bible talks about 2 priesthoods, the Melchezidek and the Levitical priesthood. Knowning God is the same yesterday and today and forever ! tithing and the priesthood has been around since the days of Adam and Able, able who was the first prophet.

and besides that, there is something about the covenant being taken away from the jews, the priesthood was established with ordination of the aposs talked about in the book of Hebrew 7. therefore there will always be the priesthood, except there was a prophecy about the famine of the word of the Lord and again with the apostasy of the church. so, the only way that the priesthood and the church can be fully manifested on earth is through the restoration which Daniel talks about as coming like a stone out of mountain without hands. and rolling forth unto the ends of the earth, the kingdom of God being a "nation" of priests.

so while there are "counterfeit" churches and false priest crafts, everyone that does not go to the source of truth will fall and fail with the propaganda of the earth, its Babylon, and all the lies of satan.
