What multiplayer pc game should I get/would be best for me?

I am looking into getting into multiplayer games, up until now I have basically played single player games except minecraft but I don't know if that really counts. This is mostly due to the fact I worry people wont take me seriously because I am a girl, I know this is stupid but I can't shake that feeling. I am looking for a game that has easily learned controls and good for a beginner. I would prefer one where there is some what of a story aspect and your aren't just running around killing people, I would be completely opposed to it though. I would also like it if I could go solo if I wanted or needed too. I know this is a lot but if you have any suggestions that would be helpful. Thanks
