Some intensely sad albums I've heard: Neutral Milk Hotel- In The Aeroplane Over The Sea/ Beck- Sea Change/ Big Star- Third/Sister Lovers/ Billie Holiday- Sings. For songs maybe Scarlett Johansson's cover of The Last Goodbye, and Pearl Jam's cover of the teen tragedy/car-crash song Last Kiss.
