Why the heck won't my Kindle Fire let me register?

To register anything, the Kindle MUST have a Wifi connection. If YOUR HOME does not have its own Wifi network that you know the network name and password of, then you need to go to the house of a friend who has Wifi, or go be a customer at Starbucks (free Wifi for customers) or maybe your public library has free Wifi.
If you mean register the Kindle to Amazon, if you don't already have an Amazon account, it may be simpler to use a computer to make your Amazon account. Then using the Kindle, register the Kindle to your Amazon account.
If you mean the Yahoo app and logging into it (you did not say that) you also need to be connected to Wifi. You might need to enable less secure apps first, on the web, at your Yahoo account settings:
