Can you get any pants tapered?

I was on YouTube and I was watching the guys EddieWin and Tonyd2Wild and they were talking about how they get their pants tapered and how it look better on their shoes or what not. But what none of them say is pants you shouldn't or can't get tapered like pants made from a certain material or if they're from a certain brand you shouldn't taper them because it'll mess up your pants. I just want to know if they're pants I should not taper or if it doesn't matter which pants I taper. When I say pants I mostly mean jeans and stuff not dress pants or what not.
