What make you think they are contender this year? Can any of the good players you mention they have, compete against the Superstars of the top teams when it matter most? Is their team able to beat the elite team?

Since all *real contenders have Superstars, not just good players, and are elite teams.*

The Wolves goal from the start is to just to make the playoff and gain some experiences. It takes time to develop, and that is one of the Timberwolves greatest asset. Once their players become Superstars, and their team become elite. That's when you know the wolves have become contenders.

During Kevin Garnet prime, he was pretty much a lone wolf. He had no help. This team has a pack that will hit their prime together.

I'm not a wolves fan, but I'm pretty sure some young wolves fans are disappointed with their team atm. But the olders one knows that their future is going to be one of brightest in the nba. That's why they have this thing call patient.

Their defense is horrible. The only good defenders on that team are Towns and Deng. But when you have below average defenders in Wiggins, Lavine, Rubio, and many others on your team, it's tough to win a lot of games. Yes, there are teams that can win a lot of games despite being bad defensive teams because they can outscore you but the Timberwolves aren't built for that since they have too many young players who have shown flashes of being great but are streaky. On top of that, they can't close out games. They have been blowing huge leads. The good teams puts the other team away and not give them any confidence, something the Timberwolves can't do.

The Wolves (tremendously) lack outside shooting and they also lack depth. They essentially have 4 "starter-level" NBA players on the entire roster (Towns, LaVine, Wiggins and Rubio). I'd argue that nobody else on their roster would start, be a 6th man, or even play significant minutes on another NBA team, especially not on a team that's any good at all. That in a nutshell is why they're not very good.

The "hot-take" before this NBA season started was that the Wolves would suddenly be a playoff team because of all the young talent they have and because their new coach would force them into being great defenders... what those hot-takers completely neglected to consider was that the other 8 players on their roster aren't anything special and that their roster doesn't have even one real outside shooting threat on it in a league where successfully shooting 3's has become a really big deal.

None of those players are good. They have potential, but that's not the same thing. They're all terrible defenders right now, and none of them are mentally mature enough to win hard games. Give it time

They are young and inexperienced. I can guarantee you that they will make the playoffs in a few years once they learn how to finish off games in the NBA and get better defense.
