Conservatives: Are you supportive of the adversarial grilling Rubio gave Rex Tillerson yesterday?

There have not been many gotcha question sequences so far, and I don't see a lot of point to the one Rubio wandered into. The nominee for Secretary of State is not a judge and he is not a jury, so he does not have a lot of business convicting someone of crimes, either now or after taking office. Someone should tell Rubio that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is not Nuremberg.

I have no problem with tough questions but I'm not sure what Rubio's point was. He wants a tough stance against Russia, which is fine, and I thought Tillerson was fairly tough on Russia in his replies; but Rubio wasn't satisfied, he wanted Tillerson to call Putin a war criminal, for example. Tillerson (wisely) said he'd need more information before he could say something like that. No incoming SecState is going to want to paint themselves that far into a corner during his/her confirmation hearing.

The day a US Senator cannot speak in opposition to a nominee of the president who defeated his 'ideas' is the day American is over. Even the defeated retain their free speech rights. Whether Rubio chooses to accept the will of the Florida voters or no.
Source(s): SO no, Rubio's attack is the sign of a 'poor loser' but Americans MUST retain the right to be whiny babies, notice that the impeached perjurer certainly felt free to continue to speak. Even after the NASDAQ crash, the visas issued by his state department to the 9/11 hijackers, George Tenet, and Clinton's Subprime Democrat 'great recession,' which took down the economy of the entire planet. - Anonymous4 years ago
Yup! Nothing like shedding the light of day on folks to chase away any "smidgeon of corruption" to use an Obama-ism.
Long as Rubio ends up voting for him, he should be grilled hard and substantively by his oown side, and not be asked softball questions like "mrs Clinton, how does it feel to be not the first woman, but one of the few women to be Secy of St" Like the way Democrats always treat their own in Congressional Hearings.

I'm no conservative (thank goodness) but I applaud Rubio for showing Tillerson up for who he really is.
Rubio, this is your chance to SAVE American from herself.
Please vote against Tillerson. It's bad enough that Putin has trump in his back pocket, we don't need a Secretary of State in there too.

Senator Rubio has the rights to ask questions citizens of his state may have so that he can cast his vote without being able to say why.

I hope that all people get grilled by the Senate when they are seeking a cabinet post of this country. Something
that did not happen under the man now leaving office.

Hmm! If he honestly needed to clarify his ideas yes, keep in mind, he's young and not very knowledgeable
