I've never seen an episode of Dr. Who. Where should I start?

Tough call, that. Some of the older doctors were pretty fantastic, but the newer run has significantly better effects (I've seen old ones where not only could you see the monster's zipper, but it's tentacle was just bubble wrap painted green). Everyone has their favorite, but I think Christopher Eccleston's run is a really good jumping in point. He strikes a good balance as the doctor, and it's not too goofy or full of feels. It'll be series one. Here's an amazon link so you know what you're looking for:

Source(s): I also strongly recommend Tom Baker's run (it's older) and David Tennant's run (which is immediately after Eccleston).

Start at the 2005 reboot with Christopher Ecclestone - it's designed to be accessible for someone who's never seen the show before.

Probably the very first one , trouble is the first one was aired in 1963 , you've got a lot of catching up to do

BTW ,, it was aired on the same day as John f Kennedy's assassination

At the beginning of an actor's run as The Doctor. Every time the actor gets replaced The Doctor 'regenerates' as a new version of himself (so essentially, a new character), and MOST of the time show ignores everything important that's happened before that.

Start from the 9th Doctor and bear with it until the 10th arrives.
