2011 Honda crv with check fuel cap message in dash display, Now yellow check engine light comes on.?

Is there a recall or common problem in the evaporative control system that will cause this error code to set?

Update:

The O'Reilly and Autozone refuse to rent a scanner because of "conflict of interest" with the dealers. The local rental shop will rent out an Autel MS300 Maxiscan tool for $12 per day, but I read online that this model of scanner is not compatible with Honda CRV. I see the Maxisys scanner works with Hondas, but costs $1195 on Amazon.com. I need more options, please let me know if you have extra information.

There are a few solenoids in the emission system hoses that can cause your problem. If yiou decide to try a new gas cap first buy it at the dealer. After market gas caps don't always seal properly and you'll never know if the after market gas cap isn't sealing if it doesn't fix the problem. I'd go to an auto parts store and have the codes read for free first just in case you get a code for some other problem than a gas cap.
