When was this doomsday clock meant to end?

Was it lastnight at 12am? I'm not sure

The curious thing about this clock is that its time started , in 1947 -- at 7 minutes to midnight.

I clearly missed those stress free times before that.

It's not truly a clock, but a meter monitoring today's tensions around the world. When things get intense (like during the Cold War, or the Cuban missile crisis) - it advances closer to midnight. When things get relaxed (like the fall of the Berlin Wall, or when the Falklands war had just ended) it gets moved further away from midnight.

The doomsday clock is a symbol of how great tensions are, not a clock timing down to a particular midnight. It is adjusted by a group of scientists who estimate whether there is a greater or lesser chance of nuclear war.

It's not, that's the whole point. Do you somehow fail to grasp that the Doomsday Clock is intended as a warning *not* to keep doing the things that will end in the destruction of the world?
