How can belief be a choice?

surely beliefs simply form from experience

- Experience and in the case of fundies, coupled with stupidity. Atheist "do not believe" because of experience coupled with intelligence.

Nobody can make you think or do a thing. You are in total control of your mind.

It does not make sense because you think that beliefs "just form from" some primordial ooze, like evolution teaches to those who will choose to accept it.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man,

But in the end it leads to death.

When you are presented with evidence about anything, you have to make a choice of whether to believe that evidence or not. That explains why juries, having all looked at the same evidence, sometimes remain hung.

You choose to indulge yourself in something and take it as truth.

A person can "choose" to believe someone loves them even though there is no evidence to support that conclusion.

In much the same way, a person can "choose" to believe a deity exists even though there is no evidence to support its existence.

Hence the saying "make believe" because you are MAKING YOURSELF BELIEVE SOMETHING you know is not true.

Gods, angels, devils, demons, holy books, etc., are all MAKE BELIEVE.

Belief is not a choice or I'd choose to believe I live in a world without wars or disease, and a million bucks in my bank account.

Unless you are not at the helm of your own ship

you choose what you believe and what you will not believe......you form opinions

Unless someone is leading you around by the nose.....is that you?
