Is there a "C Series" of Nikkor/Nikon lenses?

"C" seems to be a designation for S Mount telephotos that are compatible with Contax bodies. However, there are also other S Mount and F Mount lenses featuring "C" in their name. I've also never heard anyone refer to a "C Series" outside of this Y!A question:

Please provide evidence and a definition of the "C Series" if it exists. Thanks!

    I've done serious photography since 1986 . Never heard of a C series .

There may be adapters for a Nikkor lens to a Contax body , but most of the time adapters are not a good idea .
