Forth time replacing same part in Chevy Cruze?

I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze and I was driving last night and the Side Blind Zone Alert kept turning off and on the passenger side. Then eventually I got the dreaded “Service Side Detection System”. When I turned the car off it still stayed lit-up on the passenger side.

Now for the backstory, this happened in December of 2014 they replaced part 22971842. One month later in January of 2015 the same thing happened again. They replaced that month-old part again. I brought it in for service today and got a phone call back and that same part needs to be replaced again. This is costing me 621 dollars this time.

I have only put on about 9000 miles since it was changed two years ago. So, is this normal for a part like this to have such a short life? My friend has a 2013 Nissan and they are still on the original module, and they have many more miles on their car.

Update:

I talked to the advisor and they talked to their supervisor and said that it could not be done, and I would have to pay the full amount. So the advisor connected me directly to his supervisor and I got the voicemail explaining this ridiculous situation. I eventually called them back and talked to the supervisor and mentioned about replacing it for free under defective part or under customer satisfaction (as Jethro mentioned).

Long story short, they will deduct 300 off. They did not seem happy.

Update 2:

Update 3:

Not sure why that posted twice.

Update 4:

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I did call GM customer service (just a few minutes ago). They took my info and basically they are going to call the dealership in the next couple of days. The service rep basically said that since the car is no longer under warranty and the part was replaced two years ago, that the 300 dollars off is probably the best I'm going to get. So if the part goes again, hopefully it is in the next 12 months (warranty period).

The 3rd time they fail to fix this problem so it doesn't recur, that classifies your car as the lemon it is. It probably should be covered under the warranty. You have history of past complaints about this defect before the recent mishap, so They owe you a warranty (assuming the car had warranty then) repair based on the history.

You call GM regional service/customer service and complain, tell them what has happened, the whole story. Tell them you do not fee it is correct to have to pay for this replacement/repair.

If it needs the same part multiple times the work should be WARRANTY work! The dealer or mechanic should not be charging to redo the same thing, they should be figuring out WHY the problem is recurring. Take this up the line to a manager. Just because it lasted more than a year is not a sure sign they will not do anything for you.

Ask dealer if they will replace free under defective part or under customer satisfaction. If they say no. Be polite ask why. And thank them.

Then go home and round up all service invoices and remind them the first 1 or 2 were under warranty. Then call the GM Zone Office and state your case .A letter may even be better. Be polite, keep your cool and listen. And see how they want to handle it.No it shouldn't need replaced .But it must be of poor quality to have to be replaced so often.

Also reimburse you for any you bought.

UPDATE ....Keep calling up the latter at GM ,And rattle there cage. Call customer complaint line and cooperate office.Be polite and write down person and date called. Keep making noise. Dealers hate the cooperate office on there back.Good Luck.
