Are there no special requirements for nurses? How would a wgst degree prepare you for a nursing job?

A WGST would not prepare for nursing at all. For nursing you need to study biology and at least some small amount of medical or social care.

Either they're stupid OR (and this is entirely possible) they just picked up the unit as a hobby, not for their career.
And yeah, if you want to be a nurse, you'd typically opt for a nursing degree or at least some kind of medical/health science.
