Disconnect battery - throttle body cleaning question:?
Read a question someone posted about disconnecting the battery while cleaning their TB. A well known user posted that the computer can lose its memory when the battery is disconnected. I've seen that before - one way to clear codes. But the post went on to say that if the computer loses power and memory then the TB won't function. To quote: "if you have a "drive by wire" throttle body with out an accelerator cable the computer may lose it's programming when the battery is disconnected and the car won't move after reconnecting the battery."
I never heard that before. Is it true? If so - HOW so?
I said memory when I should have said Programming.

I also stated it's not necessary to disconnect the battery when cleaning the throttle body in the post you are talking about. Some vehicles with drive by wire are fine if the battery is disconnected for a few minutes while others such as VW's have been known to be a problem and the electronic throttle body to gas pedal programming needs to be reinitialized. There's no special reason for it...it's just what happens and people should be made aware of it so they don't end up having to tow their car to the dealer to have the system reinitialized.

There is n reason to disconnect the battery to clean the throttle body, so it's a moot point.
