Gender Studies: Are both women and men capable of appreciating a fine Scotch Whisky?

Appreciating it on as many levels as each other, not just some liquid to get you toasted. Feel most welcome to pipe up with angry rants, tangent arguments, and a good ole helping of troll rage :D

As a consummate Scotch Whisky (spelled without the "e," for those in the know) connoisseur, I don't find very many women who are into the spirit. Now, there is no way that I can categorically say that a woman is not capable of appreciating Scotch. That would be highly presumptuous and unscientific. The master distiller/blender of Ardbeg (an Islay Scotch known for it's smokey peat and sweetness) was a woman for a number of years.

But, as with sports and cigars, I always believe that a good number of women who participate in male-dominated activities do it for the "cool factor," or because they want to be noticed. And probably go home and throw up afterwards. One way to separate the girls from the men is to serve up a dram of Ardbeg, Talisker, or Laphroaig. Even if they are girls it will put hair on their chest.

I like 18yrs scotch whiskey never under that but I'm fussy on other things. Scotch is my favourite drink but it has to be the right scotch. Hate bourbon, it's disgusting.

Ah. You mean making a spiritual connexion with a fine Scotch Whisky.

Yes, both are capable, ... if the Will is strong and the is Heart valiant.

Well, do we see as many women ordering a scotch on the rocks as we do men? It may happen, but I usually see women getting mixed drinks, wine, Jack & coke, and stuff like that. I worked many years in restaurant/bars, and just didn't see it that often.
