Marvelously, light from the sun, carbon dioxide from the air, and water and minerals from fertile soil combine to produce food for earth’s inhabitants. Did it all come about as a result of some uncontrolled explosion in space? Science News admits:“It seems as if such particular and precise conditions could hardly have arisen at random.” (August 24 and 31, 1974, p. 124)

No, I don't! That sounds like creationist lies.

In 1974 there were many things we did not know. Since then the fine tuning problem has become more acute instead of evaporating. The multiverse has become a popular way to "explain away" the fine tuning even though there is no direct evidence for a multiverse and it has to be accepted on faith.
What do you call faith without evidence?
[edit] That issue of science news is behind a paywall but the fine tuning problem is well known so being able to see the actual article makes little difference. But still, a more recent reference wold have been better.
[edit]e.g. Atheist philosopher Theodore M. Drange wrote an article called “The Fine-Tuning Argument” in 1998.

Fifty years in the stream of time is not even a blip. The basic science of putting men on the moon was done in the late 1940s. Cell phones were pointed to in the 1920s. The science of semi conductors is from the 1950s. Nuclear power is from the 1930s. The engineering is what takes time.
So the science of 1974 should be of no surprise. And that science in the article is correct. It just came before on-line video games. Most today do not know gopher the first internet protocol is from the 1970s. It is still great for super large text files.
Since that article in '74 much more has been learned about our unique world and all the individual safeguards built into the earth and solar system to make life possible on earth. Much more than the article shares.
In the Bible at Isaiah 40:22 God looks down on humans the way we look down on grasshoppers. So twitter on you skeptics.

Corollary to Murphy's Law: Anything that can happen, will happen given enough chances, NO MATTER HOW LONG THE ODDS AGAINST.
We live in a huge, old universe universe. At worst, we got lucky. At best, Chemical Thermodynamics for an early earth, with a reducing atmosphere, large oceans rich in organic molecules, , in the "sweet spot" from the sun, and 2 energy sources (r=the sun and the earth's core), assures that abiogenesis is a certainty.

In 1974 there were many things we did not know. Today, it does not seem so rare an event as the physics and the chemistry has unfolded and our understanding of our origin has progressed.
Still, may people cling to the incredulity defense when positing the existence of a god.

I agree 100%. Science agrees with the Bible.
Isiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So my ways are higher than your ways
And my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For just as the rain and the snow pour down from heaven
And do not return there until they saturate the earth, making it produce and sprout,
Giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 So my word that goes out of my mouth will be.
It will not return to me without results,
But it will certainly accomplish whatever is my delight,
And it will have sure success in what I send it to do.

Was that a magazine or some evangelical publication? How are we supposed to find it.
