What is the difference between an incident report and a police report in Fort Worth, TX?

technically same thing with different names. if they are both done by police they are the same, usually they will give a business or those involved the incident report number in case they need to contact the police department about the incident. however many businesses and security companies will call their reports, incident reports.

An incident report is a report filed by the police regarding a specific type of incident. The terms are effectively interchangeable.

This is a bit of an oversimplification but....
Incident reports are for insurance companies. They're generally based upon victim or witness statements... and don't necessarily involve a case that will be prosecuted. They are "this is what the people who were present say happened" documents.
But police reports are police officer descriptions of the events surrounding a crime. The police report... is for the DAs office..... it's the basis of a ticket or arrest that generally WILL be prosecuted. They are "this is what an officer observed" documents.
