There will be $4 taxi fee + $4.50 tolls = $8.50 for taxi and tolls.

    Subtract from $49.00:

    $49.00 - $8.50 = $40.50 remainder or mileage

Divide remainder by $0.90 per mile:

    $40.50/0.90 = 45 miles

    Your total cost is $49.

To figure out the number of miles:

    1) First subtract the $4 fee and the $4.50 for tolls ($8.50 total).

Now your "mileage-only" cost is $40.50

    49 - 8.50 = 40.50

    2) For $40.50 at $0.90 per mile, you can go 45 miles

    40.50 ÷ 0.9 = 45

    Answer:

For $49 you can travel 45 miles from the airport

    Check:

    45 miles @ $0.90 per mile . . $40.50

    Cost of tolls. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.50

    Taxi fee . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.00
