Saw someone stealing daipers and formula?

My boyfriend and i were at walmart yesterday and saw a woman sttuffing daipers and formula into her bag. We have a baby due in a month, and were looking at prices and stuff like that. We didnt say anything and looked the other way but when we left my boyfriend was annoyed and sad 'shes the reason everything costs so much.

I personally felt bad for her. Its not like she was taking game consoles or makeup. She looked a bit desprate to be honest.

Im curious as to wether anyone has ever been in that situation where they havent had the means to provide for their child so resorted to stealing. And if you saw someone stealing nessessities for their baby would you say something or look the other way? I can see it from both sides.

Thirty plus years ago i was a manager for CVS, formula back then was one of the big ticket items for theft, not because it was a need but because of the resale value of it. Just because she was stealing that stuff doesn't mean she even has a kid. Got to remember that piece in these cases. If she really needed that stuff, WIC could have helped her out.

I have been in the position where i need to steal to live, to eat. Most are a lot closer then they think. I Don't know if I would speak up or not, but what they were stealing wouldn't lay a roll in it.

I can't say I have been on either side of this argument, but I can't help but notice you are making the assumption that the person couldn't afford to buy the items themselves and that isn't always true. There are resources the poor have to gain these necessities too but this person (and you) justified that Walmart should pay for it instead. Perhaps when you are the one being stolen from, you might change your mind of what is permissive.

I would actually have felt bad for her to be honest. When it comes to a baby, I can understand. It's either feed her child or her child dies. Maybe if formula didn't cost close to $30, people wouldn't have to steal it. It's a sick world when food to keep babies alive cost that much. With WIC, you usually need to make an appointment which she probably needed milk beforehand.

Wow, that's a tough one. The bigger part of me would feel bad for her, but the other part would feel guilty about not reporting a crime. I don't know, I might even offer to pay for her. Of course my "inner assh*le" would say that people should use birth control so they don't have kids they can't afford.

I know multiple people who have stolen. I choose to not say anything because I don't like to get involved in other peoples personal lives. If it is a friend that I am with then I definitely say something because I do not want to get in trouble. If it is just a random person I think it is normal to not say anything, its shitty on the woman's part but you don't want her child to suffer from not having diapers/food/etc.

It's wrong but sometimes parents are desperate. You should have approached her and offered to buy the items.

I have never been in that situation myself but I personally would turn an eye as what if that mother couldn't get the nicessites for her child what would become of the child? Most people would say "she shouldn't have a child of she cant afford one" this is true but a lot of people do not have a choice in the matter. I find it sick that I'm this day and age needs are so dear to buy and leave people not to afford things that everyone needs.
