Is this a good buy for a first car?
I'm just about to turn 16 and want a car. I found a 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero on sale very close to my house. It's $1,400. The car looks very nice and in good condition from the pictures (I know they can be deceiving). It's a private dealer so I could hopefully try to talk the price down a little bit but right now the price is $1,400. I have about $1,000 saved up but my parents said they would pay for half. It's got 152,000 miles on it but I won't be taking many long trips with it. Good deal?

These cars are good for at least 300 000 miles +. You need to make sure it has been regularly serviced. If it has it is a good deal

That's one tired Saab. If it is selling for such a low price it is guaranteed to have immediate problems and issues. Plus, are your parents willing to insure such a vehicle? Because you are not yet of legal age your parents would have to both insure and register the Saab for you.

You can't buy it, the parents have to buy it for you, title is in their name, with yours if they choose. You need to be added to their insurance once you get your license.

One of the available engines on the 9-5 was notorious for sludge buildup. There are always five or six of them for sale locally with bad engines. I would expect a $1400 example to be on its last leg.
I love quirky European cars and old Saabs (pre-GM) have that fun weird factor, but the newer ones were abysmal.

That's an old turd. Saabs are not reliable and SAAB is also out of business.

Saab is a terrible choice. Avoid.

Sounds like a good deal for a good car! I'd do it and then once you've had that car for a year or so, invest in a new one.
