Can you tell me if i'm solving for volume of a pipe right?

A 36 inch pipe that is 1 mile long = _____________ cubic feet?

.785xD^2XLength, is that the right formula for the volume on this?

so .785 x 3FT x 3FT x 5,280FT(1mile) which would give me 37,303FT^3

I'm taking my California water distribution grade 2 liscense test in 10 days and i'm just brusing up on studies again and i may need this because volume could be a factor in one of my equations.

    If diameter is 36 ins then radius is 18 ins = 1•5 ft

    V = π r² h

    V = π x 1•5² x 5280 ft ³

    V = 37322 ft ³

    The formula you are using is

    .785 D² L

    .785 ≈ π/4

    π/4 D² L = π (D/2)² L = πr² L

    So this is an equivalent way of calculating the cross sectional area.

    A = πr² = π/4 D²

    diameter = 36" = 3 ft

    radius r = 1.5 ft

    area of circular cross-section of pipe = πr² = 2.25π ft²

    length L = 1 mile = 5280 ft

    volume = πr²L = 2.25π·5280 = 11,800π ≅ 11,880·3.14 = 37,303.2 ft³
