Is singing in a choir tenor section a big mistake for a Heldentenor?
I am a vocal student at Stetson who transitioned from baritone to tenor and even when I started as a baritone I still begin in singing in the choir's tenor sections. I am training as a tenor who is probably a lyric dramatic tenor but could end up as a Heldentenor but I don't have the body for it. What choral part should be recommended for me if there is a possiblity that I'm a Heldentenor all along? Because I had learned from David Jones that singing in a choral tenor section is a deadly vocal choice for a Heldentenor after trainging one Heldentenor who trained as a leggero tenor in a University and had a job singing tenor in a church choir. Is that true.

Consider your tessitura. If you can't go higher than an E4 in Piano, then bass I. If you can consistently hit F4s and F#4s in piano, you should consider the tenor II part. It is okay to use falsetto in a choir if you need to.
