What would a football league do about this?

My boyfriend was playing Football and accidentally tripped another player up whilst tackling, this other player punched him in the face, head butted him and stamped on his leg, what would the league do about that?

    Most likely suspend him for the rest of the season and possibly fine him.

    Report to the coach to suspend that player, he should to get banned from the league.
