are you pregnant the day you have sex? Can you get pregnant the day you have sex?

You could possibly "conceive" the same day you have sex. But you won't be pregnant for at least another 6 to 12 days. It's going to take that long for the fertilized egg to travel from inside the Fallopian tube and into the uterus and implant - thereby establishing a pregnancy. Until (and unless) implantation happens, a woman is not pregnant.

Sperm can live in the uterus for up to five days.
When ovulation happens, the egg can live for about 24 hours.
You can have sex on Monday, ovulate on Thursday, the egg and sperm join after ovulation, which is conception. After conception, it can take between six to twelve more days for the fertilized egg to implant in the uterus.
You are not pregnant until the fertilized egg has actually successfully implanted.
Now, if you happen to have sex on the day you ovulate, then the sperm and egg can join in as short as 30 minutes to two hours. But it would still be six to twelve more days after conception before the fertilized egg would implant in the uterus.
Pregnancy hormones don't start until after implantation. By the time pregnancy hormones are strong enough to cause pregnancy symptoms or a positive pregnancy test, it is time for the next period. That is why almost all pregnancy tests recommend to wait until missing the period to test for pregnancy.
The basic answer is that it takes at least six days after sex before you are actually pregnant. In most cases, it will be even longer.

Sperm can fertilize the egg as soon as hours after you have sex, if things are optimal. But it can also take up to five days for fertilization to occur. Implantation doesn't usually happen until 5-11 days after fertilization, and before that there is no pregnancy, no hormones, and no symptoms. So no, you can't get pregnant the day you have sex.

Pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Which takes at least 6-7 days after conception. (And conception can happen anywhere from a few hours to 5-6 days after intercourse.)

You can get pregnant the day you have sex. However, that's pretty uncommon, it usually happens at least a day or two later. If you're asking if you can feel pregnant or know you are the day of sex, the answer is absolutely not.
