Because many Americans do over-react to anything outside their limited knowledge of the world. Many of them seem to have little knowledge of most parts of their own country.

Because they are not very well informed and haven't taken the time or trouble to do some basic research and don't care that they are not showing people the real picture, ie that the people of London have taken a hit, taken it on the chin, got up, brushed themselves down and are getting on with life
