It depends which joint, if it's one of the large chains it can depend which country even. Some use a separate fryer and some don't or if the separate fryer is on the blink for some reason they might cook fries in the same vat as chicken. You'd have to ask each place you go to and it's up to you if you want to believe them or not.

Absolutely. Being vegan is about being healthy right? Wrong.
Its about taking a moral high ground. What better way to support your cause by putting money in the pockets of the baby killers? They literally kill babies. Theres no coming back from your choice. Youre out of the club. #VEGANNOMORE

I don't think of cross-contamination as a vegan issue.
I also have mixed feelings about supporting fast food restaurants in general. I will avoid going to McDs even for a cup of coffee. They are probably the world's largest supplier of animal cruelty.
I think I could make an argument that vegans should support fast food restaurants that make some kind of effort. Like when Taco Bell revealed some vegan menu items. But i'm more inclined just to avoid the places unless its the last resort.
But to answer your question, there was a big brouhaha about McD's fries not being vegan. and to this day they don't claim their fries to be vegan.

Depends on the fast food place. Some use the same oil as they use to fry meat products, some add beef tallow or other meat products to flavour the oil and some use seasonings on their fries that include powdered beef stock or chicken stock for flavour.
You're going to need to (a) decide what YOU consider vegan (since interpretations seem to vary) and (b) do more research on your specific fast food restaurant.

No. They are fried in the same grease that they fry the chicken nuggets in
